Advent

Today we introduced Advent.  The students made an Advent Wreath and added the first candle.  Each week we will add the next candle and recite the week's prayer. Today we prayed using the following prayer:

The First Candle
Dear God, help us to get ready for Jesus' birthday.
Help us to be kind while waiting.
Amen.

Mystery Reader #3

We had another Mystery Reader today.
Clue #1 - I am a girl.
Clue #2 - One of my children has red/orange hair.
Clue #3 - You can find me close by.
Thank you Mrs. Tucker (Cole's mom) for surprising us! We loved your book about the Tucker Farm.

Thank you Mr. Wilson

Yesterday Mr. Wilson surprised us as our second Mystery Reader.  His clues were fantastic (#1 - I wear glasses and am bald, #2 - My favourite colour is red, and #3 - I like Dr. Seuss and Pete the Cat Books).  Mr. Wilson was dressed in red and full of energy...the kids LOVED his visit!
Thank you Mr. Wilson for coming and for the new addition to our book shelf.

Exploding into Space

This week we asked the students what they wondered/wanted to learn about.  Outer Space was of interest to many of the kids.  Yesterday the kids told us "what they know" about space and today they told us "what they wonder" about space.  WOW...we have some excited kids!

Our Little Readers

The Year One students have been introduced to reading using beginning strategies and finger tracking.  When reading at home please encourage finger tracking and looking at the pictures for clues.  The Year Two students should be encouraged to use their knowledge of sounds to decode unfamiliar words.  Some of our students continued our reading lesson during play time today.
